Beading needles come in a range of sizes and are used for loom-work or off-loom beading stitches such as brick stitch, peyote, herringbone, right angle weave etc. and bead embroidery. Twisted wire and Big eye needles are more often used for stringing beads onto thicker cords, fibers and elastic.

Needles are sized with the higher the number the finer the needle.

Tip: Beading needles can sometimes be a challenge to thread, but here’s a great tip to try. In a well-lit area and with ample magnification, begin by determining your length of thread and making a clean cut with a good pair of thread cutters. Flatten this end of the thread with a pair of pliers. Hold the thread in your non-dominant hand between your thumb and index finger with a couple of millimeters of thread exposed. Place the needle over the thread and pull the flattened end of the thread through the eye.
