Magatama beads come in two sizes. The standard 4mm Magatama is shaped like a plump water drop with slightly flattened sides. Long magatamas 4x7mm are shaped like a leaf with pointed ends, their sides are cut on an angle giving them a slanted appearance. Both styles of magatamas are popular for kumihimo, wire crochet and bead weaving.
4mm Magatamas (MA4) measure 4mm x 4mm with a hole size of 1mm. Count is approximately 12 beads per gram.
Long Magatamas (LMA) measure 4mm x 7mm with a hole size of 1mm. Count is approximately 8 beads per gram.
